Citizens band (CB) radio is the quickest, cheapest, and easiest way to start communicating long distances by radio. In a crisis or disaster situation, cell phone and landline services often go down, and in these situations a CB radio will allow you to communicate with others to get help or organize relief efforts. Also, in the event of an emergency a CB offers a great back-up method if your cell phone is not working—this is especially important on the road. Nearly every truck driver has a CB radio in their rig, and you can easily contact them for help. Every prepper / survivalist should have a back-up plan for communication in order to reach loved ones, and to get help or organize relief efforts. Also, it’s just a fun hobby, and a way to meet people in your area.
CB radios are relatively cheap, easy to use, and you don’t need a license to operate them. Unlike ham radio, General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS), or Family Radio Service (FRS) radio, you don’t have to obtain a license and learn a bunch of rules to start communicating on a CB. Anybody, of any age, can buy a radio and start communicating right away!
